What Is Google Gemini?
Google Gemini is Google’s AI assistant for writing, research, coding and everyday tasks. It began as Bard, which opened to waitlisted users in March 2023. Google renamed the chatbot in February 2024, as Gemini’s history records.
The underlying models are multimodal, so they work across more than text. Google first announced the Gemini models in December 2023. Gemini now also runs inside Chrome and Google’s own products. Google’s plans page highlights its Gemini 4 Argon model on paid tiers.
Free and paid plans share the same core assistant. Paid plans raise usage limits and add extra tools. Google bundles those plans with Google One storage. It also sells business editions as Gemini Enterprise.
Core Features
Gemini Live, Deep Research and Canvas
Gemini Live supports spoken conversations, and you can share your camera or screen. Deep Research analyzes hundreds of sources and writes a report in minutes, and it can use documents you provide. Canvas gives you a workspace for drafting documents and turning ideas into code. The free plan includes all three.
Gems, Images and Video
Gems are custom assistants for specific tasks. The free plan includes image generation and editing. Paid plans add video generation, and Google Flow, its creative studio, comes with every plan at different limits. Music generation and Storybook sit among its creative features.
Long Context and Google Apps
Google AI Pro lists a 1M token context window and uploads of up to 1,500 pages. Gemini also works inside Gmail, Docs, Vids and Chrome. Gemini Notebook adds a research and writing space for your own sources. Chrome’s auto browse feature helps complete tasks for you.
Who Uses Google Gemini and How
Students can turn notes into study guides and practice tests. Writers can draft, test arguments and beat writer’s block. Analysts can upload documents and ask for insights and charts. Google also runs a dedicated page for students.
Developers can upload a repository of up to 30k lines of code for debugging help. Google AI Studio offers a no-cost start with the Gemini API. Antigravity adds agents that write, test and deploy code. Jules, an asynchronous coding agent in beta, comes with AI Pro and Ultra.
Gemini Enterprise connects to Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, HubSpot and Jira. The Business edition suits small teams, while Standard and Plus target larger organizations. Enterprise editions state that your data is not used to train Google models. Business teams can start a trial without IT setup.
Pricing, Plans and Integrations
Google Gemini is free to start with a Google Account. Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra raise usage limits and add features. Pro offers four times the free usage, and Ultra offers five or twenty times Pro. Paid plans also bundle Google storage and app access.
The official subscriptions page shows current regional prices. Teams can pick Gemini Enterprise per seat. Usage limits refresh every five hours up to a weekly cap. Paid AI plans require a personal Google Account and users aged 18 or older.
Google Gemini suits anyone who already works inside Google’s apps. It rewards people who use Gmail, Docs and Drive daily. Try the free plan first.
